Creative Advertising Ideas: Especially The Ones That Increase Your Sales In Bad Times

Creative advertising ideas are a dime a dozen. Finding the truly great ones can be a challenge. Great ads have a balance between the "create" part and science. Often times too much emphasis is placed on one or the other.

If you ignore the science...the numbers, and the specifics that are tangible such as measuring results in terms of new customers, greater sales, or more leads generated...then you are missing a fundamental aspect.

If you ignore the more right brain aspect...the ideas, words, and strategies, choosing instead to be fomulaic...then it can be difficult to get the results you want.

In any form of marketing the first step is to know your outcome. What is your purpose? Are you trying to get new customers? Generate fresh new leads? Is it a branding or awareness campaign?

Next, you should have a strategy in mind. Will you be selling your product/service directly? Are you driving them to a website? Or will you be using a two-step ad, where you are only trying to collect leads, to later sell them to.

Third, you want to craft an irresistible proposition or offer. What can you offer your potential customers, that they would have to be crazy to not take you up on? A great example of this is the Columbia Records classic offer of get 12 CDs free when you become a member of their club.

Finally, you want to craft compelling, emotionally driven copy directed at your target prospect. Including the headline, guarantee, emotional word pictures that get them to feel the benefit, as if they had already bought what your selling.

In my opinion the best creative advertising ideas are those that sell. Not those that are cute or clever, just for the sake of being different. There is no place for this if your goal is greater results.
